Undergraduate Christy Schaefer uses a velocity meter to measure the the stream velocity of Colony Creek. The data was used to estimate the normal discharge of the creek, which was then compared to flood stage discharge caused by a beaver dam break, that occured upstream several months earlier. 500 meters of welded ignimbrite are exposed on the south face ofHannegan Peak, in the North Cascades. The fantastic intracaldera deposits of the 3.72 Ma Hannegan Volcanics are reached by a pleasant day hike from Bellingham.
