Prospective Students

We at WWU Geology are always looking for the best and the brightest! We offer a large and diverse faculty for an institution of this size (about 12,000). This provides our students with an excellent education, because we have the faculty usually associated with a larger university, but the friendliness and accessibility that only a smaller institution can offer.

About Bellingham

Western's campus is in the City of Bellingham, a small city of about 60,000 people. Bellingham is about 90 miles north of Seattle and about 60 south of Vancouver, B.C (see maps). If you enjoy outdoor activities, Bellingham is a great place. The city offers miles of interurban trails for walking running and bicycling and is minutes from Cascade trail heads, rock climbing, mountaineering, mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding. Because Bellingham is situated on the Puget Sound, water sports such as sea kayaking, sailing and scuba diving are also very popular activities. WWU sustains an active Outdoor Center as does Whatcom County's Parks and Recreation Department. Bellingham is home to the Mt. Baker Theater, museums, a wide variety of restaurants, smokeless pubs and micro breweries, and a very active food co-op.
